A Crisis Intervention Chaplain is a minister,
deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, or anyone else called of God to make a
difference in a crisis. As a Crisis Intervention Chaplain you are a volunteer
that promises to respond to the call when spiritual guidance is needed in a
disaster.
We as a Nation learned on September 11, 2001
that we are vulnerable and that the unthinkable can happen here. After the
attack on September 11th, many clergy rushed to the site to provide whatever
help they could, but they found they were not equipped to deal with such an
incident. These wonderful men and women of God did not know who to help or who
to comfort as they lay dying and where to find resources. Sadly, the members of
the clergy that responded that day became victims themselves.
The Crisis Intervention Chaplain training offered through Trinity Institute is
designed to teach members of the body of Christ the proper reporting procedures,
places to find resources and to provide the federal and state government a list
of qualified crisis counselors that can assist them. You as a Crisis
Intervention Chaplain may be called upon to hold the hand of a dying child and
in a moment provide the funeral for that child. You could be asked "why did
God do this?" or "what sense does this make?" What ever the call
is you as a Crisis Intervention Chaplain are there to fill the gap and direct
people to the Love of God, to share with people that God does care and He is
right there with them. We are to be a beacon directing people to the hope only
found in God.
